ABC 7.30 Report – Laura Tingle & John Black
Category:Australia Votes,Election Profiles,Federal Election 2025I’ve been a bit busy lately analysing polling and election data to make any social media posts and I’d like to make amends by posting my comments I made on the ABC 7.30 Report with Laura Tingle on Thursday night.

(The interview with Laura starts 14:10 on the timeline of the video)
My comments are based on the election profiling I’ve been doing on the votes and swings to and from the major parties and the minor groupings, ranging from the Victorian Socialists on the Left, to the Trumpet of Patriots on the Right. It was the one in three of the total votes from minor parties like these that determined the election outcome.
ALP candidates at the election also scored a little over one in three primary votes, but won a big majority of seats by winning a big majority of preferences from the one in three voters who supported minor parties and independents.
I’ll post a full summary of my analysis in the next week or so.
