John has pioneered demographic profiling of Australian political and economic groups in Australia since 1975. He developed the demographic strategy for the Australian Labor Party national campaign in 1983.

John is one of the leading authorities on demographic profiling of schools and is the person that many others turn to for expert insight and advice.

John was a Senator for Queensland in Federal Parliament (1984-90) and chaired Senate Inquiries into Drugs in Sport which established the Australian Sports Drugs Agency. He was a founding board member of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency and a part-time Senior Member of the Australian Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

John is a highly regarded guest demographic and election commentator and writer for various media outlets and is known for making many unerringly accurate forecasts, because he follows the data.
